So, I have had people tell me if someone wants to bet you and it could cost you money “don’t do it.”

This guy has something up his sleeve.

When I was 19 years old and traveling around Europe and Africa I got into a situation where the mountain side had collapsed over the road and had backed up traffic. This happened on a coastal road in Spain. Well, it was gonna take several hours to clear the road so we settled for the wait.

In this back-up were tourists and local truck drivers, all sitting outside of our vehicles waiting for the road to clear.

Next thing I know some Spanish truck drivers started to converse with us. With our breakdown in communication we started to have some kind of rapport.

Then ole Manuel pulls out a coin and starts flipping it and wants to play a game. Heads I win, tails you lose. "Let’s try it", I said – I won! This is great, and you know I won again. I was gonna get rich right here on the broken mountain.

Then my luck changed, one loss another and another, soon I was losing more than I could afford. Well, as luck would have it and we had to sit together for a while, I think ole Manuel saw the fear and disgust in my eyes and backed off.

He laughed and showed me the trick, he was able to feel the head or tail with a flick of his finger and flip the coin in the direction that was favorable to him.

He gave all the money I lost back, the road cleared and we went on our way.

I learned a lot that afternoon, I never looked at a coin the same way, I practiced with every coin when I had the time.

I learned that if anyone wants to bet saying they can jump through the glass and won’t break it, don’t bet.

So, back in 1973 I was convinced that the Spanish truck drivers are the best in the world.
