Once I was watching a TV show about building tree houses. Now the gentleman doing the show was walking thru the woods looking at the trees for a suitable place to build. He said, “you have to let the trees tell you what and where to build” If he finds 4 strong trees in a square it would tell him to build a square house. Three trees in a triangle and so on.
So, I got to thinking. "You know that holds true with almost every business and profession?" If you are a doctor you would look at your patient and formulate an opinion of how to treat them. Are they overweight, smoker, great shape, healthy? Each patient will let the doctor know how he should proceed.
A carpenter would look at a piece of wood and let the wood tell him what to use if for. A leg of a chair a countertop or paneling.
An accountant looking at books will be told what type of corporation or system should be used for that client. This holds true hair designs, the shape of the face the length of hair all would tip the professional as to the style that would look best.
The gemstone industry is no different. It starts with the stone or crystal found in the grown. So many times, I have been in cutting facilities and watched the cutter hold up the crystal and let the stone talk to him and then he might say this crystal is saying to cut an elongated rectangular cut.
He can’t tell the crystal what he wants to cut, the crystal has to tell him. Some folks start by purchasing a ring that they like and then try to find a stone that fits. This is the opposite way of thinking. You always find a stone that you like and then build the ring around it. Let that gemstone tell you what kind of piece you should have.
