#45 - Shoot for the Moon

In our diamond industry there is a battle raging between synthetic and natural diamonds.

Synthetic Diamond Wafers

For years diamonds have been synthetically made but usually in very small sizes. More recently the synthetic industry has been able to make stones in larger sizes and in large quantities. Now don’t get me wrong, there is a place for synthetic diamonds. Natural industrial quality and synthetic diamonds have a huge impact in our economy, used on sanding discs, drill bits (from drilling teeth to drilling oil wells), to diamond dust on your fingernail file. It is endless. But in my mind the synthetics ought to stop there.

There should be no place for the synthetics in the Fine Jewelry business.

Our whole society seems to be looking for the easiest path to gain their goals.

What ever happened to a time in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy in his moon speech said, “We choose to go to the moon, not because it is easy, because it is hard.”

President Kennedy 1962 Speech

Shame on the people in our industry supporting the uses of these synthetics, mostly in the name of money and profits.

What happened to the sincerity of a relationship? What type of foundation is set up with purchasing a synthetic as a start to a marriage? I think that a foundation that is set on flimsy cardboard rather than stone, is destined to fail.

What possible reason could one have, except that it was easier to acquire and was not hard?

I say, “why don’t you get married to a mannequin, they are also fake.”

A diamond is a promise, it is forever, and it costs money, it has a value and a worth, it has substance and longevity.

A synthetic is fake, with no substance, no value.

Start your journey on solid ground. Marriage can be hard, don’t start out going easy, you just make it easy to fail.

So I say fill your engines with rocket fuel and start your time together by shooting for the moon.
