#42 - Heaven Can Wait

I have many clients that over the years have purchased or acquired possessions that they love dearly.

It could be jewelry, coins, art, statuary, watches so on and so on. Of all these items these folks usually have their favorite pieces that they have trouble parting from. It may have been something purchased on their favorite trip to Paris which brought back wonderful thoughts of yesteryear. I know when I see it, I see it in their eyes.

Some of these folks have family that they can leave it to, which I think is the best. But others have out-lived their relatives or never had anyone to pass things along.

This is where I come in. These folks know that they have to go on with life and do what is necessary. They might be downsizing and want to get rid of large vases or pieces of art. They may be growing old and realize that they can’t hang on to everything forever. There was a time that I would buy an old dead horse if I thought I could make some money. I have refined my purchasing procedures.

I have a couple of sayings, after I purchase some items I say, “this just went from your garage to my garage.” The other is “you have to get rid of these things at some point, if not to me, then someone like me or the ambulance driver is going to own it”, sounds crude, but true.

So, one thing I purchased was a group of books, and amongst these books was a religious book with a note and signature from Father Solanus Casey. This guy was one of the few Americans to be Beatified, the step before Sainthood.

Beatification of Father Solanus

This was huge. Now I had an employee that went to the service and he took my book to get it blessed at the Beatification. Father Solanus was credited with numerous miracles and was quite impressive.

Well after that I got to thinking about that book. So, when I got sick and had to go to the hospital for a couple of days, I started thinking that I just might cash in. So, I brought the book with me for insurance.

So, when I do die and get to the Pearly Gates and they tell me I don’t have enough credits to get in, I am going to ask them to bring Solanus out here. I’m gonna show him the book and ask if he can do a small miracle and fix me up and send me back down so I can get the required credits and find someone to buy that old dead horse.
