Every once in awhile I get people who ask me if I can loan them money. I have learned to stay away from these requests because it never ends well. Either they just don’t pay and I have to reach out to them and that I don’t like to do. It always seems to affect our relationship.
At one time I thought that places like pawnshops were sort of a rip-off and why would people go there. I have come to learn that there is a great need for these institutions. These are places that people who have lost their credit, can’t go to a bank, and need capital. They can give up something they own and get cash to hopefully kickstart a new beginning for themselves.
One-time years ago, a woman asked for me to loan her some money and she would give me her diamond to hold. Some how she convinced me. I could see she was desperate, and I thought maybe I could help.
Things went well she came back and paid what she owed and took her diamond back. Thing was, soon she was back for another loan.
At this time, she started to open up to me and told me how her son had a bad drug habit and she had been paying for him to go in and out of rehab. This I know is quite costly. She kept telling me she prays to God all the time asking for him to give her son back. She wanted him to stop thinking of drugs and go back to his family.
After me loaning her money several times over about 3 years she told me the final part of her story. She said that her son had gotten out of a rehab and had to go to a halfway house. There he had his own room, so she got him a TV set. Another person in the house got into a fight with her son over the TV and smashed his head. Unfortunately, this caused him to have brain damage and now has the mindset of a 4-year-old. Even though this woman now has to do everything for her 30-year-old son, including feeding and bathing him, she turned and looked at me and said: “He doesn’t think of drugs anymore, he doesn’t even know what they are, you know God gave me my son back.”.
